The 2011 Rowe Pottery Historical Collection

There is an old adage among craftsman that the primary form of an object follows its function. The 2011 Rowe Pottery Historical Collection reminds us that this past is worthy of reflection. The kitchen throughout history and still today remains the focal point of the home, our 2011 Historical Collection continues to build on this strong tradition. This year's pieces are unique in that they have strong utilitarian uses, but are less common forms to find.

Rowe Pottery has once again given much attention to the detail of every piece of the 2011 collection. It is wonderful to reflect on the hours that were traditionally spent in the kitchen to prepare a meal and take joy in the progress that has been made over time.

Choose from the rolling pin, pitcher, low cake pan, yelloware preserve jar, footed bowl or get the entire five-piece set.

A. 2011 Historical Rolling Pin
Ceramic rolling pins were preferred by many to wooden ones for traditional use. They were smoother than wood and the cooler surface meant dough was less likely to stick. Rolling pin measures 9.25" long and 2.5" in diameter.

B. 2011 Historical Pitcher
Pitchers are common in pottery history and remain one of the only tableware pieces that were commonly thrown. This pitcher evokes a full rounded shape with a short neckband, traditionally used for cream or milk storage. The pitcher measures 5.75" high and 4.75" in diameter.

C. 2011 Historical Low Cake Pan
The low cake crock resembles the ever popular salt glaze crocks, however its low nature traditionally lended itself to cake baking and storage. These were made in much smaller quantities as they traditionally did not hold up well to extreme baking temperatures. The low cake pan measures 4.5" high by 9" in diameter.

D. 2011 Historical Yelloware Preserve Jar
Our yellowware preserve jar builds on the strong success of the 2010 butter crock. Yellowware preserve jars were never manufactured in large quantities so are quite hard to find. The jar measures 8.5" high by 6.75" in diameter.

E. 2011 Historical Footed Bowl
The footed bowl form is modeled after a more unique colander form traditionally used. The bowl would be elevated to help with the food drainage, this reproduction will sit beautifully atop a bountiful dining table. The bowl measures 4-1/2" high by 11" diameter.
